5 Most Romantic Cities In Canada

While this year you and your special someone may not be travelling for Valentine's Day, that doesn't mean that you can't start planning a future romantic getaway. In order to find a romantic getaway, some people believe they need to travel to Paris, the Bahamas, or another international destination, but that's not the case. You don't have to cross oceans to discover a unique and romantic place to explore, one of the greatest things about living in the world's second-largest country.
Here are five (when it is safe to do so!) of the most romantic cities in Canada for you to visit.

Tofino, British Columbia
It's no secret that British Columbia is stunning, but Tofino in particular is a great place to take a romantic getaway for you and your loved one. In the winter, the small village on the west coast of Vancouver Island offers milder temperatures, so if you're usually stuck in cities full of snow, Tofino might be your place.
You can take a sunset stroll to Pettinger Point while you're there, a popular spot for proposals and romantic gestures (just sayin '). A two-hour helicopter tour of Mount Ursus Glacier, one of the most beautiful places on the planet, can be booked if you want something a bit more structured.

Tofino is a perfect romantic getaway for the nature-loving couple who still wants a bit of adventure while on vacation. Oh, and the mountain views don’t hurt either.

Kingston, Ontario
A more low-key getaway is preferred by some couples. Be sure to check out Kingston, Ontario, if that is you and your partner.
Perhaps you'll take a walk through Martello Alley, Ontario's only art gallery in the alley, where you can see local artists' original artwork and enjoy the eclectic experience. Or you might be up for a haunted walk, where you'll be touring the Old Sydenham Ward or Fort Henry. You can do it hand-in-hand with your sweetheart either way.
Kingston is full of historic sites, local restaurants, markets for farmers, and small shops, making it easy to spend a day exploring the city. In Kingston, the small-town charm makes everything feel more cosy, truly proving love is in the air.

Fogo Island, Newfoundland
Do you know how you sometimes just want to get as far away as possible from your responsibilities? One place you can do this is Fogo Island. Literally, it's one of the four "corners" of the world! Although the island's population is small, the beauty is larger than life, with only about 2,500 people.

Couples will love to stay at the Fogo Island Inn, named after the icebergs travelling from Greenland to the area, overlooking "Iceberg Alley." There are floor-to-ceiling windows in each room, so you can stay inside while looking at the amazing views. The Fogo Island Inn features a 37-person cinema, a library, saunas and hot tubs, and a dining area where you can enjoy a romantic dinner if you're tired of looking out at the scenery (though, how could you be?).
For couples who love spending quiet time together and staying in one spot, Fogo Island is the perfect getaway.

Quebec City, Quebec
The Old Town of Quebec City is full of history, charm, and romantic spots for you and your special guests. In 1608, Old Quebec was founded and is regarded as a heritage site. The cobblestone streets lead you through the character-filled city, stopping along the way at shops and cafés.
In Quebec City, there are obvious romantic stops for you, such as taking a hot air balloon ride over places like the Citadel and the River Saint Charles. At Place D'Youville, a free outdoor rink with old Quebec on one side and more modern buildings on the other, you could go skating as well. With a private food tour by Tours Voir Quebec, foodies can explore the cuisine, taking you to 15 local spots within the city.

There are also a few more hidden romantic options, such as attending one of Quebec's churches at a bell-ringing ceremony, or heading to Île d'Orléans where you'll find beautiful farms and vineyards.

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
Yellowknife isn't often a place where people think about travelling, but the trip is definitely worthwhile. Yellowknife, the only official city located in the Northwest Territories, thanks to its three diamond mines, is sometimes referred to as the "Diamond Capital of North America." And is there, really, anything more romantic than diamonds?

Located approximately 3,000 km south of the North Pole, Yellowknife offers visitors a perfect opportunity to experience the aurora borealis from November to April. Or just enjoy the phenomenon from wherever you happen to be, you can book an official viewing spot. Experiencing one of the most beautiful sights in the world with the person you love is something absolutely magical, and you can do that in Yellowknife.

You can also do something a little more adventurous if you're up for it, like going dog sledding through the snow (with the help of a guide of course). You could also make your way to Dettah Ice Road, a 6.5 km ice road that connects Dettah to Yellowknife. Tourists love to take pictures of the frozen river, which in the winter is converted into a road. It's also another great place to enjoy the aurora borealis from within your own vehicle's comforts.

So you've got it there. You can visit five romantic spots in Canada with your special person once the country opens up again. Until then, we recommend that you celebrate Valentine's Day at home and dream about all your holidays in the future!
